Nose Up

Featured Replies

i just wondered how do get the autopilot to keep the nose up on landing? As it always seems the AP gives me a 3 or so degree nose down descent, which in real life is extremely rare, my planes like on 3 quaters weights, at least 7 10ths of flap, a low airspeed, what more is there 2 do?

"i just wondered how do get the autopilot to keep the nose up on landing?"Once you have committed to land (at or before the decision height) turn off the autopilot reduce power and pull back on the stick or yoke to flare the aircraft. The autopilot does not flare the AC."As it always seems the AP gives me a 3 or so degree nose down descent, which in real life is extremely rare, my planes like on 3 quaters weights, at least 7 10ths of flap, a low airspeed, what more is there 2 do?"During the approach I don't pay attention to pitch directly but I'm watching its result, airspeed. I assume that a level, or slightly nose-down, attitude is normal because the purpose of flaps is to allow a lower airspeed without an extreme nose-high pitch. R-

ya ill always do a manual flare at decision height, its just before that that id prefer to have a nose up pitch. Even with full flaps i always see planes coming in with 5 degree nose up angles or so, and its in poor vis which suggests AP is on, therefore it can be done, i can do a nose up pitch manually but the AP always seems reluctant to, i can only assume making the plane heavier and not using full flaps, maybe 3 quaters, or lowering the airspeed a bit. id appreciate a little explanation about this 2, thanks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------Once you have committed to land (at or before the decision height) turn off the autopilot------------------------------------------------------------------------I find in almost all the airliners I fly that if I do *not* do that - then the plane goes into go-around mode. The engines go to full power and the thing points its nose and the moon and we're off! After a few episodes like that I realised I had to kill the AP before the flare!!!
