Problems with Upgrading to 9.1

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,I had my FS9 setup completely on the PC so I wouldn't need to have the CD4 in the drive all the time. However, since I have upgraded to FS9.1, I am asked to place the CD in before MSFS2004 will run. Any ideas what could be the cause or any tips on how to resolve this issue? I have tried the MS KB articles but they are no use or at least I haven't managed to find the right one. Many thanks in advance for your help.CheersMehdi

Obviously you had applied the no-cd hack and are in effect asking about how to replace it. That is not allowed in this forum, since the hack is not a sanctioned MSFS program. If you run FS2004 as it was intended to run by Microsoft, CD4 is required (assuming you have the CD version).-John

Hi John,Thanks for your reply. When you install FS2004 9.0 you have the option of installing:1- Compact (which requires CD when running FS)2- Complete (Which it totally runs from within the HDD)This is the choice given in the install by MS, I have not placed any hacks, this is provided by MS, otherwise why they would provide it in their own original limited edition tin box version!RegardsMehdi

Hi,I installed FS9 using the "complete" option too, and i still had to insert CD4 into the drive (i do not have the tin box version though - if that makes a difference :-hmmm). Also i do remember that when the 9.1 patch came out there was talk that one way or another a no-cd "hack" for FS9.1 was simply not possible. So either way I , like everybody else it seems, have to have CD4 in the drive to play FS9.1.So i don't know how you managed to get FS9 to run without CD4 or any no-cd hacks.

"Complete" still requires copy protection and CD#4--if you have the CD version, then you would be aware of that--unless someone sold you a counterfeit version of the software that evaded the copy protection. I thought that there was a DVD version sold overseas which had no such protection, but I may be mistaken since I've never seen it mentioned here--and you've made no mention of it.-John
