FS Global Special Edition - Review

Featured Replies

I just bought this product and I thought I would share my first impressions with you all.http://img.game.net/ml/3/2/5/9/325964ps.gifWorldwide 76m terrain mesh. It comes on 3 DVDs (one is double-sided). There is a very well-written little instruction booklet with an FAQ section in the back addressing common concerns. Tech-support is via forums. Its about 12GB of data but the installer gives you a choice of 6 regions of the world to install - although if you can do it then install the lot.I was previously using the freeware worldwide 70m mesh from http://www.simviation.com/fsdterrainsrtm.htmI had taken about 13 screenshots *before* installation to see the changes and....... in most places FS Global is *nearly* identical to the freeware worldwide mesh you can download from Simaviation. It looks exactly the same in some areas when I compared screenshots of the Himalayas for example. But where the freeware mesh was generating strange things(random vertical cliffs appearing out of nowhere, holes, voids); FS Global fixed it nicely. It also lived up to its promise of changing non-mountainous terrain to something more realistic than the default landscape. Also FSG covers the globe completely...beyond the latitudes of the freeware mesh. Its a great general mesh. I say "general" because you can download higher-detail freeware 38m data for some parts of the world.A great buy for
