July 2, 200520 yr Hi allAfter having to do a Windows reinstall 2 days ago I've been getting CTDs. I haven't had to reinstall for months & FS was running as smooth as silk.I think it's related to how I've re-prioritised my addon scenery, mesh & landclass within FS and possible conflicts arising as a result - stupidly I forgot to make a backup of my scenery.cfg. How should I be ordering my addon scenery, mesh & landclass within FS & does landclass reside in the SceneryBASEScenery folder or within the Addon Scenery folder like the others? My very basic specs are as follows:Athlon 1.6+GHz, 528MHzDDR, GeForce3Ti200 + NVidia56.55 + DirectX9.0aWindows2000SP2FS9.1 + unreg FSUIPC3.48AISeparation1.1Only freeware scenery addons, default aircraft & no payware anything.Any suggestions or help would be great. Thanks!Josh :)
July 2, 200520 yr If you just reinstalled FS after a Windows reinstall, inserting all of your add-ons in one go isn't agood idea anyway......and your CTD's are indicative of that methodology.First, confine landclass files to their own and separate dedicated Scenery folder under the Main FS Scenery folder; and remember: No Texture folder.Create separate Scenery and Texture folders for the remainder of add-on sceneries under the Main FS Scenery folder. This enables the isolation of problematic issues should they arise.Mesh and terrain scenery should be installed according to the individual authors' recomendations and suggestions.About the only thing that I would put in the Addon Scenery folder is any Afcad file for which you don't have an existing dedicated scenery folder. In other words, lumping a bunch of scenery files for different areas into the Addon Scenery Folder can be an invitation for headaches.....trouble shooting CTD's for example, becomes nearly impossible. Refer to the Help files within FS for further discussion about adding Scenery with respect to layering/priority, etc.
July 2, 200520 yr HiMany thanks for the reply.I've basically done exactly what you suggested I shouldn't've! :-rollWill give your recommendations a go.Cheers :)Josh
July 3, 200520 yr One other thing I forgot to mention, and this is more of a reminder than anything: after you have created the various scenery folders, you'll need to enable(activate) each of them within the Scenery Library before they will actually display within FS.
