Multiplayer Question

Featured Replies

I am just curious as to whether many people here use Multiplayer in FS9. I started flying online way back in the FS98 days and then it was really unstable and a major hassle to fly. Today, with Multiplayer and TeamSpeak it is very easy to do and in my opinion is a really good choice for people that want to fly light aircraft in a VFR setting where Vatsim would not really be necessary. I do find, however, that the number of people that participate in MP seems to be extremely low. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this activity seems to be so unpopular?

Probably depends where you look, Bob. Over at DC-3 Airways we see 15-20 aircraft in the air three or four times a week over two hour sessions on average. FS9 is a great platform for MP. Currently we use FSInn for hooking up and Teamspeak for comms (or RW when flying VATSIM).Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hi Bob. Here in Quebec, I know at least 2 groups of about 30. I participate to one of them. There are meetings scheduled twice a week but people also gather at any time to fly or just to contact between themself. Presently we fly under FSHost but also use FSInn as well. Generaly there is about 10 to 15 that gather for any scheduled flight.Personally I meet twice a week with a friend from France. He has been an admin guy for 40 years at Air France and worked all over the globe. There is hardly a place he hasen't lived in or visit at one time or another. We've been meeting like this for the last year. Last february we decided to fly the A

Bob,I tend to use multiplayer a lot of the time now (more on than off) and find it a good way to meet people who enjoy the same kind of flying as I do. I fly on Bushnet and am a member of Bush Flying Unlimited. No ATC on Bushnet and it can certainly be described as quiet. I have come to know 3 or 4 other pilots on there now and we all enjoy flying through British Columbia / Alaska which is nice. Being in the UK it can be a problem with regard to timezones though.AndrewEDITSorry Bob. Missed you last sentence "Does anyone have any ideas as to why this activity seems to be so unpopular?".To me it seems as if at the server I visit it's a question of knowing when someone else will be there. Luckily I now know that this weekend one or two guys I have met there will be on (if server is up) and can time a flight for their timezone (they live in Ca).I think this could be a catch 22 thing though. I go to a server but noone is there. I go a couple more times and it is still emprty. I give up.Knowing someone else will probably be there encourages me to be there. I think that if more people started "sitting around" on that server hoping someone else would visit it would help. I do that a lot. If I am going to fly VFR anyway why not do it on a server even if I am the only one there? Who knows when someone will pop in.(A personal experience for you)

Just had a thought. I run a Teamspeak server here at my home. If you don't feel like searching out a muliplayer server but would like to fly and chat feel free to use it. The server name is 82.45.24.190 just enter as an anonymous user.Andrew Brownhttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

We fly in the Misty area of Alaska and now that Ultimate Terrain Alaska is out have expanded to about Anchorage and Juneau and Stewart in BC. Many times there is nobody on, so if you are interested you can get the information here to sign on. All VFR and mostly Bush planes....http://www.mistymoorings.com/multiplayer/index.php
