What's going on?

I'm suddenly wondering what I am doing wrong or is there something wrong with FSI have recreated the flight plan from one of the suggested flight 'London - Darwin air race' in the Vickers Vimy. On the second leg of the journey I decided that I would not be able to go over the mountains so I went south to the coast. then head toward the second stop. I reached the end of the mountain range and turned east. Everything was going ok until, the compass started easing toward the north. (to port) 'No problem' thought I and applied the normal amount of opposite stick. Suddenly turn to port accellerated and really whipped through nearly 180 degrees despite full oppostite force on the joystick. After much juggling (and lost height) the plane finally settled down and I turned back on original course.Approaching the same spot the same thing happened.Got the plane settled down again and tried a third time. This time I got a little further. Then the same thing happened an I ended up giving in and letting the beggar crash.Fortunately I had saved not long before.Am I doing something wrong? As the compass just starts to tick right at first I put over the normal amount of opposite (which usually brings the plane back around reasonably well. On these occasions it just didn't happenCould it be that I am crossing the coast? Would that make a difference?Any advice would be appreciated. ThanksRussell(confused)

Very strange. I'm afraid I have no answer quite yet. Can I ask where you using Activesky, MS Weather, a weather theme or your own custom weather? I would quite like to try the same part of the flight to see what happens can you give me a couple of airports to fly between and the closest airport when the strange thing happened? I know that it could be asking a lot if you fly as I do (no GPS etc).I have to say well done for starting that flight and I hope you can let us know if you manage to complete it. I have thought of flying that route several times but the length of time the flight takes puts me off somewhat.Good luck,Andrew Brownhttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Must confess to using GPS (cheating a bit) and have worked out the flight plan before hand. I mainly fly with the GPS off and just use it to work out how I am going with crosswinds etc.I was using real world weather.Airports in that local area include LFMLLFMALFMQ Was (I think) crossing the coast somewhere around E 005

The best thing I can come up with is a shift in the wind direction and speed at that point. With a registered version of FSUIPC you can smooth wind changes so it might be worth enabling that option. I looked away for a while during a recent flight in bad weather (flying the comet probably)and due to winds I had turned from about 160 to 360. My aircraft had enough to power to turn it round and fly against the wind but maybe the Vimy just couldnt cope so was blown to the ground. Give me a while longer and I will try flying the Vimy a bit then have a play with the winds and see how much of an effect it has on me.If it is just the wind you could be in for a choppy ride.I hope someone else knows better.Andrew

Ok, might have been winds or - more than likely - just me. Have now cleared that area and am continuing to head east towards Pisa. All going well now. Happy and safe flying.
