July 22, 200520 yr I flew a very interesting approach into Johnson Petersburg (PAPG) in Alaska ... maybe it is old news to the most other simmers but for someone who hardly every fly in the USA, the real weather had very low clouds and it was a challenge to do this with winds and clouds.Off course the only draw back was ATC who did not have a clue about the approach and who was trying to vector me for a straight in approach - up and down with the altitude and left to right in their directions. (Phew - I hope that FS10 of FS15 ... will sort this problem out!)I've attached the LDA DME-D plate for your pleasure and a nice screenshot of the approach. Go and fly it!;-)RegardsTerblanchehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122845.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122847.jpg
July 22, 200520 yr Hello Sir,If you have the FS NAVIGATOR program you will find Various Alaska Approaches available here at AVSIM as I am trying to make Alaska flying abit more friendy for those who have a hard time with approach plate instructions. In the real world Alaska ATC Usually clears the pilot for the approach at about 7000 ft AGL as radar coverage is usually lost about then and the aircrew is on there own to get down safely. Other "fun" alaska approaches are, Unalaska, Valdez, Juneau,Sitka and Ketchikan, just to name a few. Having flown in Alaska aboard Coast Guard C-130s for 10 years in Alaska, I still never get tired of the Flightsim challenges of Flying up here. :0)Fly safeDave in AlaskaUSCG RetiredC-130 Flight Engineer
