October 4, 201510 yr I have not had the chance to download 3.0 as of yet but I do have a question. From what I have been reading 3.0 is installed in its own directory on a SSD and all other addons, aircraft, scenery, and utilities are now loaded outside of 3.0 and can also be loaded on another drive! If this is correct and the choice is to use another drive, should the drive with addons be SSD or a regular HD, and is there an advantage using a SSD? thanks Nick Sciortino
October 4, 201510 yr First of all, it is recommended to install addons outside of the P3D folder but it has already become clear that a lot of developers simply won't do this. For instance Orbx and PMDG will install into the P3D folder no matter what. Secondly, you make it sound as if P3D has to be installed on an SSD: this isn't the case, of course. As for SSD's: whenever you do get the option to install an addon elsewhere you always have to ask yourself if the addon would benefit from a fast loading time. Scenery addons would be put best on an SSD but a weather engine can be installed anywhere. Just think logically. Take note though that an SSD will only give you a benefit with the initial loading of a flight: this will be faster than when you use an HDD. However, during the flight itself you won't see any difference in performance. Unless, so I am told, you use a lot of photo real scenery. Another advantage of SSD is you don't have to defrag them. But that's about it.
