August 24, 200520 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I started using Flightsim 2.8 to keep track of and install aircraft. I'm not as familiar with FS9 devs, but some products from some very well spoken of people are being flagged with missing guages. Sometimes they refer to seemingly default guages like ST_KingAir when I am installing something totally different. I have not removed any default aircraft, but have disabled more than a few. No invalid or folders within folders. After more careful examination of the readme in a few cases I find that certain elements belong in the root FS9 and not "gauges" "aircraft" etc. Other times I get the same result whether I use the manager or do it myself following the instructions. More than one flagged aircraft was installed via .EXE Most confusingly, some guages show up on both the unused and missing list.Although I modified my CFG carefully according to instructions, I get the FSSound.dll warning every time. I'm more inclined to believe I'm doing something wrong than a total of five highly regarded devs, but I am not sure what.Any advice? Thanx in advance.:-wave
August 24, 200520 yr I would be very cautious with any error reports about certain things and that includes aircraft folder structures. For example I get an error with PMDG 737 and that can't be right! But FSM is a very useful program for checking scenery, among other things.
August 25, 200520 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Thanx. I agree, there are so many different ways to assemble a package and the fact that some guages show up as both missing *and* unused shows something going on. I now think I did an oops and unzipped things that should not have been unzipped because of unfamiliarity with FS9. Like, I extracted a plane, saw an zip icon and said "that ain't right!!!" What effect would that have? Not good I now realise. It was a while before I ran across the first readme that warned against that. Also, does the interface matter? Does unzip mean classic and extract always mean use wizard with winzip? If there is an .exe installer, I usually run it right off a CD if it's not on my HD already. I think that's okay...FSM 2.8 did a fine job with the freeware Avanti, which I messed up twice. When it was thru, the folder was named Avanti instead of P180 and the guages warnings from FS9 on selection, and lockups when autostarting in exterior view or if I didn't Alt out to switch planes right away after an overspeed breakup or the like, went away completely. The foolish and arrogant pay stiff penalties, but the fools first.Best Regards, Donny:-wave
August 26, 200520 yr "Also, does the interface matter? Does unzip mean classic and extract always mean use wizard with winzip?"I use Classic mode for everything, having never really got into any other way. As for installs, I prefer manual where possible. It should be OK to install straight from a CD but I prefer to transfer files to the hard drive first. If I don't want to retain install files on the hard drive I would then just delete them after the install.
