Flying an ILS approach with Autopilot engaged

Featured Replies

Hi guys,Quick question, for some reason (only recently) when I make an ILS approach and select the "APP" on the autopilot, it disengages my "HDG" and "ALT" hold. For all the years I've been using flight sim, it would just keep HDG and ALT engaged until intercepting the localiser at which state it would switch them off. I can't figure out what I've done to make it do this.As you can imagine, it's quite a shock when I hit "APP" and suddenly the aircraft pitches up and rolls :(Any ideas how to fix it?Thanks

Hello Buddy,I don't know if you are refering to FS2002 but all default aircrafts of 2004 B737/747/777-series will all automatically dis-engaged the HDG/ALT the moment you activate APP. At this stage I always dis-engage A/T (pull back to iddle Thrust) to decelerate and maintain pitch 3-5 deg., start extending flaps and monitor IAS/VSI.Hope this solves the difficultyRegards,Isagani

Also, If you are useing a aircraft with a Nav/Gps switch. Make sure the switch is in the NAV posistion, before you select approach hold. :) Hope this helps.
