The Texture Wizard is back!

Featured Replies

Hi all, Good news from the texture wizard Lennart Arvidsson. He's working on new textures including autogen for the Scandinavian region. The project is called Scantex. Have a look at the preview of textures and autogen at http://www.flightsim.no/home/textureart/ The site is in swedish but very easy to navigate due to the limited contents. Lennart plans to release Scantex during april or may. Who cares about BEV Europe textures when Lennart produces excellent textures for FREE :DUlf B

Does the sim actually support SEPARATE Scandinavian textures? I didn't think it did, they're included in the Northern European mix, in which case there may be compatibility issues with other texture sets, BEV, FScene and GE.Allcott

So they're a texture set on there own, like GE, BEV, FScene for people who like to fly in the northern hemisphere. So no harm done. Best of all, they are free! Thanks for the HU! Allcot, Your perfectly right. The naming of the project probably only reflects Lennarts attempt to create textures and autogen that are typically scandinavian. Lennart explains on his site that he made an attempt to use different textures for different parts of Sweden, but he found no way to produce this effect in FS9. But I don't mind. Lennarts previous textures for FS9 made both northern Europe and north America much more realistic than the default textures.Ulf B

This is great news! I love Lennart's work, his were the first textures I installed for FS9.Regarding geographical boundaries in FS9 for landclass and textures - it's almost impossible to restrict custom textures to any one continent or country without using the majority of the North American textures - that's simply the architecture of FS9, and as designers the easiest solution has always been creating switcher front-end programs, something Lennart pioneered quite a while ago.

Hi JohnIs that true? I always thought you could wipe out the US textures by creating region based textures (ie use a different letter to :(. Having said that, I only know the theory - I haven't produced a texture set myself so may be too naive.BTW: I hope to get some more screenies to you today. I had some good progress, but hit a major problem which I hope I can work out...Cheers,Christian

You could create any number of new class of textures but the LC can't call it. The only way to work around it is with custom textures called from bgl scenery files and that is just not feasible for a whole continent.Time will tell if this architecture has been extended for FSX. I sure hope so. If not, switchers are here to stay for a while longer.

Am a fan of Lennart's work and glad to hear he's back!

Who is Lennart? Never heard of him...
