C130 (Capt. Sim) Autopilot

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,This week I got a present from the wife and she bought me the C130.It's not as if it was on my wishlist or something but hey, a gift is a gift and I'm happy with it.However, after installing the DVD and playing around with the systems to get used to the layout, I thought it time for some serious work. I grabbed the manual (a nice thick fat book included with the dvd) and started digging. After that I got the engines started and I even managed to take off.So far, everything went by the book (the big fat one mentionned earlier and not the genuine aircraftmanual). When I arrived at the chapter of the autopilot, everything went wrong.'The Book' says :open the AP panel. The power light should already be on. Push the 'engage' button to couple the autopilot with the aircraft systems...Since there is a nice light above the engage switch, I dare to presume that the light should come on after 'engaging' but nothing happens...I have read the manual about a dozen times but I can't seem to get it to work. Are there 'Herc'drivers out there who can help me out here?thanks and all help appreciatedLuc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium

It's no as easy as that - you need to read the section about the overhead and switching the electrical systems on.Allcott

Allcott,I have to assume you are correct. But following the start-up procedure in the manual should have taken care of all electrical items. Even following this manual to a T, I still can't get the AP to engage (even if powerswitch indicates that the Ap has been powered up).I have been searching high and low for some item I might have missed during cockpit preparation but I can't find anything. So, if you have more experience with the C130, could you please point me in the right direction?thanksLuc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium

Well I only have the download version, not the JustFlight box set, but when I open the autopilot panel, it is exactly as described: The autopilot power light (inside the switch) is on and pressing the engage button on top right activates heading hold - assuming you haven't moved that mode rotary switch - and pitch hold. What position is the rotary mode switch (to the left of the autopilot panel, or right of the P1's panel) in and is the centre of the power light lit?Ian P.

Ian,Thanks for the reply. The power light is lit, that's for sure but the engage switch didn't want to butch. Now, in the mean time I have found the answer. When I placed the four generators online, I also moved the fifth switch online but that made the red light 'Out' come on. So I switched it back off. Now I found out that it is that fifth switch (right of and slightly above generator 4) that powers the autopilot. In the tutorial, there is no mention of that last switch so that's what caused the confusion.I very well knew that it probably was the PIC involved that made the mistake but when the manual is incomplete...thanks anywayLuc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium
