Puzzled by Ground Control Operations at Pensacola Regional!

Featured Replies

When I turn on to the taxiway at KPNS and contact ground control for taxi, I do not get an option to taxi to the gate if I am piloting an Airliner. They always tell me to taxi to GA parking. My passengers do not appreciate that. Haha! However, when I do the same in the Learjet or Cessna 182, I get an option to taxi to parking or taxi to the gate. I can't understand why. I have tried not appending "Heavy" to the call sign but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The only way that I can get a "taxi to gate X" is to change to a GA type aircraft before requesting taxi and then request taxi. Then I change back to the "Heavy".I suppose this is another anomaly in the ATC thread of MSFS.Has anyone experienced such at other airports in MSFS?

Have you examined the airport using AFCAD? I suspect that none of the gates are configured for a large aircraft. You could fix that with AFCAD also. R-

Ron,The answer is no. I have read about AFCAD and have downloaded some AFCAD files, but I have no idea as to their purpose. Please enlighten me. KPNS is not a very large Airport, but I think it could handle a Boeng 717.Thanks for the response,

Download AFCAD221.zip from the AVSIM library (check to see if there is a later version , of course), familiarize yourself with the comprehensive documentation provided by Mr. Lee Swordy, look at P-cola's parking spaces, and adjust if required. Lee even thought to add a tool to adjust aircraft radii (size) to match existing gates as well as vice-versa. It's easy to use, even I can do it :)There now. Do you feel enlightened? ;) R-
