April 6, 200620 yr Am I able to move my entire FS2004 folder to another hard drive on my system, and just boot it from there? Or will there be registry problems?I ask because I'm trying to format the disk I have it on (a seperate disk) so I can dual-boot Linux on this PC.Thanks!
April 7, 200620 yr I have done just what you are asking after accidently installing fs2004 on the wrong disk. After copying everything across, it worked just fine. This was an installation prior to any addons being installed. I dont know what impact to additional software, but things like aircraft and scenery should not be too adversly affected.Hope that helps some, i expect others will comment and give you a more definate answer.Rgdshttp://www.avsim.com/pages/0100/avsim_sig.jpg
April 7, 200620 yr If you have add-ons, you may indeed cause problems since some add-ons use their own entries in the registry. With MSFS alone, it's not as big of an issue--there's just one entry in HKLM/Software which points to the install path of MSFS. I've actually changed this entry to trick some install programs into dropping their files in a dummy FS9 folder I keep set up, so I can track what they're changing. Early on with FS2004, some install programs were dropping FS2002 files and wreaking havoc with certain gauges and effects.Anyway, if you have add-ons, you may need to track what entries, if any, they've added to the registry. Remember, you can search the registry for the MSFS path, so it may not be a big challenge to find out what other entries are looking at it.-John
