May 10, 200620 yr Low FPS (in fact decaying FPS !!!)I have got my FPS fixed at 25. Once I take off and as I gain altitude the FPS increse to around 25, but as the flying progresses, the frame rates start to decay, and an hour later they are down to around 2.5 to 3 which makes it very difficult to land.I have the feeling that I am having a rather pronounced memory leak.I have posted this before but not many takers. The suggestions were to eliminate fs.config and let FS9.1 recreate it again, but this does not help.I checked my scenery/land class to see if there was something wrong ther. Could not find anything. One last suggestion made was to install Active X 9c. Can I install this on top of 9b?Do you guys have any other suggestions. I would sure would like to hear from myou Gurus.I would hate to reinstall FS9, a/crats, addons /panels etc. Especially those from Flight1 which are a pain in the neck.Edmundo CardenasCaracas, Venezuela http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
May 10, 200620 yr Ok usually up in the air we can get nice high frames, since basicly only thing drawn are clouds, however you say frames start to decrease.. you mean closer to the ground whilst landing? which could be an issue of too much autogen scenery, with a lowgrade vidcard and slow cpu.. (dont know what system u have) that can bring frames to a crawl.. however if thats not the case it sounds like some sort of memory leak. Have you checked for duplicate afcad's? and as for DIRECTX not Activex, yes you can install c over b.
May 11, 200620 yr Thank you a lot for your only (from this Forum) but good suggestion.I have a P4 3.4 Mhz 2X60 Giga HD, 1Giga Memory ATI 700 (128 on board (It is an Alienware Laptop).I will try the DirectX 9.c install.Meanwhile I am using MemoryBoost 2.6 which I just installed tonite. It does help minimizing memory leak but it is not the final solution. I will check for duplicate afcads.THe frame rates dropping so much is not when landing but way before say 15 minutes before. I fly in Venezuela a lot which sceneries do not have much autogen to talk about. So you can imagine the crawling when in heavy autogen sites in the USA.Edmundo CardenasCaracas, Venezuela
May 11, 200620 yr HI,This kind of thing happens to me sometimes, for no apparent reason as I have very few add-ons or anything. When it does happen I shutdown FS9 and then re-start it. Ridiculous to offer this as any kind of solution, but it has worked for me. The next thing I do is to run the de-fragmentation program and disc clean-up.Sometimes I have d/loaded aircraft which, when flying, I think might be a cause and I just delete them.Good luck with your hunt for a solution.Andy.
May 11, 200620 yr Hi Edmundo,I had the same situation at one time. I diagnosed the problem eventually to my processor running too hot over time. Since FS9 is one of those programs that is extremely processor intensive, it's logical to assume that performance will degrade over time as your processor begins to heat up. Make sure that your processor cooling fan and radiator are free of dust. Make sure that there's sufficient grease between the radiator and the processor (or whatever insulation is used in your PC). I have an Intel Motherboard and I downloaded and installed the Intel Active Monitor Software which monitors my fans and processor temperature. I can tell you that when I first installed it, and ran my normal applications, no alarms went off. When I fired up FS9, all was initially ok, framerates fine etc. Then framerates began to drop, and very soon after, the heat alarm went off. If there is a monitoring program of this type for your motherboard, get it. I looked and tried everything you've mentioned above to no avail. Lastly, I don't use framerates as a measure of overall performance. It's part of it, but as we all know, framerates are affected by scenery, weather, addon aircraft, and who knows what else. I just look at overall performance and smoothness. Since I replaced the insulation and cleaned out any dust, I've had good consistant performance regardless of the flying environment.Hope this helps,Lawrie
May 11, 200620 yr Lawrie, yeah heat affects performance, though doubtfull in his case cuz he allready said he has a Laptop not a Desktop.. furthermore it being a highend Alienware i really dont think it would have anything to do with it. This looks more like an issue with fs not so much hardware.
