You need either the gmax or fsds source to edit aircraft models--no other way otherwise. If one could edit them without the source, it would open up some serious potential for copyright abuse so Micrsoft wisely made the mdl format a compiled one. There's one editor out there, MDLMAT, that can be used in some circumstances to edit the attributes of model materials (i.e., dynamic shine, the opacity of the glass, etc). That's the only editor I've ever seen that can do anything with a mdl file without the source, and the functionality is limited to just what I mentioned.-John
