June 4, 200620 yr I know everyones bored to tears with CTD threads but please I was wondering if any of you has a fix or has solved this highly annnoying CTD variety: The type that occurs when I press ALT + ENTER to toggle between fullscreen & windowed mode in the sim. It driving me up the wall http://www.planet-smilies.de/a_smilies/computer_1.gifAlso sometimes FS9 boots up in a little window and when I press the top right button to expand it to fill the screen - CTD.http://www.planet-smilies.de/kaos/CreamPuffKaos/pcrying.gifI'd be grateful for your input, thanks much!
June 4, 200619 yr I haven't seen any threads on FS9 crashing going from window-mode to full screen and vice-versa (I did a search on AVSIM using "fullscreen" as the keyword). I strongly suspect it's a bad video card driver installation that's creating your problem. Maybe double video card entries in the FS9 config could be the offender too. There are so many variables that cause a CTD. Bad or corrupted textures, a corrupted scenery.cfg and/or corrupted FS9.cfg, memory or other hardware problems are some causes to name just a few. What aircraft and scenery were running when you received the CTD? Maybe they are the culprits. It would be nice if someone would find the exact cause of each FS9 CTD but I don't think it's possible with all the varying systems FS9 is installed on around the world. Best regards,JimYoung
June 4, 200619 yr Thanks Jim, I will generate a new FS9.cfg and see if that helps. I forgot to mention that the CTD only happens using a particular panel with the iFDG A320....hmm...perhaps a gauge is being naughty. But then again the error message says "mod name:unknown"Well at least I can fly the sim if I leave the window sizes alone so I shouldnt grumble too much!
June 4, 200619 yr Well Nevin, I hope rebuilding the FS9.cfg fixes your problem. I searched AVSIM on IFDG and no one else has reported problems similar to yours. Most people are using the PSS A320 panel and another airfile instead of IFDG's but that shouldn't cause your problem switching between window modes. IFDG has a great reputation and I think make great products.I emphasize a sound card driver problem because I was receiving CTD's whenever opening a kneeboard once (no error msg - nothing - Just CTD). It ended up being the video card drivers even though the XP Device Manager and DirectX diagnosis indicated the video card was properly installed and was working properly. I was completely shocked when I uninstalled the video card and reinstalled it and my kneeboard crashes stopped. Also, did you check your systems Event Viewer and check what the error message(s) there states? There could be other errors that have occurred recently which may help you pinpoint the solution to your problem.FYI, I have a system similar to yours: a Dell XPS Gen3 system (P4 3.6GHz with HT and 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533 MHz) with a RADEON ATI X800XT PCIe video card. Best regards,JimYoung
June 4, 200619 yr Jim...thanx for the further input. Well...its not the iFDG plane :) I aliased the A320 to 3 different panels to test it and..no CTDs with window-resizing.I do not use the PSS Panel, its a freeware one I found on the web..but I think its my modding of the panel (adding gauges using FS Panel Studio) that might be causing it http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...con_redface.gifNo other panel-plane combo causes these CTDs duting window resizing, so I know the PC and its internals are all good! Also my other games (F.E.A.R, Far Cry & GTA San Andreas) run flawlessly. Will continue to dig and perhaps find another panel!
