FSX queries: Autogen, illumination, lights, changes in Wx

Featured Replies

Firstly demo d/l problems:If MS are reading this, I have been unable to d/l the demo from the MS site as the demo seems to compile uncompleted for some apparent reason (due to large volume people d/l the demo??) at different sizes i.e. 225mb, 518mb.Autogen:Ok, having been sceptical about FSX, there are areas within this new sim that I like, but in many ways it still looks like FS9.One area in FS9 that needed work was Autogen. Default Autogen objects were way TOO big on the landscape, which proved annoying while I was designing scenery projects for FS (like Shoreham 2005). I resulted in switching the Autogen OFF permanently. Are the Autogen objects now at a suitable size instead of being four times as big as they should be?Illumination:As we seem to have reflections included in the sim now and better lighting effects, does this include illuminating the buildings as well (landing lights illuminating objects and producing dynamic shadows?Lights at night:Do we now have dynamic night lighting, similar to FS2000 lighting, where we had "dots" for night lighting in and around towns and for moving traffic (as we included in Shoreham 2005 again). This makes flying quite realistic while flying within the sim, but we seem to have those replaced by "blured" night "textures/bmp's"; have we seen any change here?Weather:I still yet to see evidence of major changes to the weather engine. Do we have more realistic cumulo-nimbus (CB's) or cumulus clouds, in their powerful heaped towering 3D volume? The FS9 clouds look rather "plain", with no true feel to depth and power.Do we now have frontal systems instead of clouds been spread around in "pockets" with no true feel to random changes as you fly?Ideal flying environment would be to have a constant mix of stratus cloud, few clouds, the odd CB, all in areas where it all blends together as one (basically like the reality). The current system does not do this as the engine is rather basic.Regards,Will
