September 8, 200619 yr A lucky friend with the Fileplanet beta told me that FSX has a fixed helo FM allowing for proper autorotations. Apparently fully lowering the collective is now the right way to go, and one even has to pull it to avoid overRev during the "glide" down to the flare. Can anyone around here confirm?
September 8, 200619 yr That is correct. I am not in the beta team, but there are some posts talking about helo FDE at www.hovercontrol.com. Helos est
September 8, 200619 yr 1. Proper autorotation has been restored. After engine cut, you have about 1 second to get the collective down or you die.2. You now have full yaw control regardless of collective setting. This has been a bug since FS2000.3. You will find it easier to hover at full realism than FS9 - they dumbed it down slightly.4. You have a multitude of views to use. Those who insist on flying from outside the cockpit will be delighted. Moreover, you can create your own.5. The R22 is totally screwed. The manifold pressure gauge still doesn't work properly.6. When collective is lowered for autotation, cyclic control is almost completely gone. There may be other problems with the R22 - I gave up and turned my attention back to the 206 but I'm gonna have another look. However, on the plus side, for those who are hover challenged or are one of the many who fly helicopters STOL rather than VTOL will find both are very easy to fly, even at full realism, and will probably enjoy them more than ever. There are some interesting and challenging helicopter "missions" included in FSX.I only imported a couple addons and they function & fly properly. They are the simple ones from the FS2002 era. I didn't try any of the higher end ones and I do not patronize payware so I can't comment on those either. Can't think of anything else right off the top but feel free to post any questions you have.Cal BoothChief Instructor, HoverSafe AcademyHelping people learn to fly the FS helicopter for over 8 years.http://members.shaw.ca/hoversafe/Hoversafe.htm
