October 15, 200619 yr After sorting out the unfortunate activation issues (Deluxe edition),I have now had a few days to try out FSX and I'm very happy so far. Like everyone else, I spent a fair bit of time tweaking the settings until I found the "sweet spot" for my system. I have 3-d glasses and for those interested in this, they work, and the environment is spectacular. The wet runways/taxiways look amazingly realistic in 3d and combined with the mist/splashing effects, just great immersion (nice job Aces). I have mainly been flying in and out of Vancouver Intl. What an incredible difference to FS9. Vancouver and surrounding area looks so much better now. These are the details of the settings that are working well for me at the moment and hopefully might be of some use to those just getting the software, with similar computer specs to me, and looking for a place to start:Global Texture Resolution = HighLens Flare OnAdvanced Animations OnTarget Frame Rate = 201280 X 960 X 32 Resolution in 3d (can't go any higher without flicker on my monitor)Anisotropic Filtering OnAnti-Aliasing Off (not necessary in 3d)Level of detail Radius = MediumMesh Complexity = 89Mesh Resolution = 5mTexture Resolution = 1mWater Effects = Low 2.XLand Detail Textures = OnScenery Complexity = Very DenseAutogen Density = SparseSpecial Effects Detail = HighCloud Draw Distance = 60 miDetailed Clouds OnCloud Density Coverage = HighAirline Traffic = 25%GA Traffic = 25%Airport Vehicle Traffic = MedRoad Vehicle Traffic = 12%Ship + Ferries = 30%Leisure Boats = 30%I did the FSX.cfg suggestion and my settings there are:TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1500With these settings, there is a lot of activity at CYVR. There are lots of animated jetways, plenty of airline traffic (I have to wonder at the number of planes the 100% setting is trying to compute?). The various airport vehicles driving around is a nice touch. You actually just want to sit there and watch the airport activity. I suspect that once the folks at PAI etc... do their thing, we will be able to up the airline/ga traffic with less frame-rate hungry planes. I have mainly been flying the Beechcraft Baron so far, very nice improvement from FS9 and I shall be using this plane much more often now. I haven't even explored the missions yet, but they sound interesting. The limitless possibilities for things like remote flying missions in the "Goose" to inlets, camps, in BC and Alaska, for example, should be a lot of fun for me. I am also most excited to see what MegaScenery is going to come up with, now with the higher resolution possibilies. They may be shipping areas on 10 DVD's, but can you imagine how some of those areas are going to look at 1m resolution? For me at least, all of these new added features are easily worth the $91 (taxes incl.) price tag. Think of what you can or can't buy with that money. That didn't even get you a Rolling Stones ticket at the recent Halifax concert...
