October 15, 200619 yr For the first time after spending ages tweaking the sim i had a go at doing a flight from Houston to Phoenix. I used the 737-800. First of all, the 737-800 virtual cockpit is excellent. When the sim loaded (with real weather) there was a major rain storm in Houston. It was chucking it down. I could see puddles forming on the taxi-way. The reflections off the surface also looked great. It was dawn and for those of you who have flown at this time of the day (you will know) that FS renders it beautifully. I took off in overcast conditions and within a few hundred feet my plane had been swallowed up by the grey skies. It seemed an age before i broke out on top of the clouds to see a crisp blue sky. I spent most of the flying time looking out of the window at the wonderful mountains and valleys. A big improvement on FS9.As i descended into Phoenix (partly cloudly skies) you really get a feel for how the new road system has improved the realism. There was a snake of highways leading into Phoenix. I came in directly over the city to rwy 25L.I also saw something i didnt think i would see in FS. You see, i only know of Phoenix (i live in the UK) because i saw an online cockpit video of an airliner landing at Phoenix. It looked amazing and just before the runway there was a huge bridge and the plane seemed to just fly over it. Well, in FSX i saw the same thing. A bridge with cars and i nearly hit it too! Knew i was too low :)The frame rate was struggling around 12-13fps whenever i was below 10000ft but there was no stuttering and it didnt hinder my enjoyment.Enjoy the pics!
