From 10fps to 17fps at Seattle, here is how

Featured Replies

First of all, my system:Athlon XP 3200+1gig RAM512MB Geforce 7600 GSI have played around with most of the sliders and found very little performance gain by moving them up and down. Most of the time i have only got 1-2fps difference. This does, of course, exclude the autogen setting. I get 10fps at the airport in Seattle with everything set to medium-high.Today i moved onto the environment settings and looked at the AI traffic, road traffic, boats etc. I had set all of these settings to 10% (or less) and airport traffic to low. GA aircraft was set to 0. I didnt think these settings would have much effect on fps as they were set so low but i set them all to 0 for a test. On the runway at Seattle i normally get 10-11fps sitting in the A321 virtual cockpit. Astonishingly i was now getting 17fps. Thats a big leap considering i had them set so low. Yes! 17fps at the worst FPS eating airport in the game with everything set to medium high. The difference in smoothness (with 17fps) was pretty big. You may argue i have lost a few things but how much airport traffic/other airlines etc. do you see when you have then set to only 10%? I can tell you, not alot! However the near frame rate doubling has made a big difference.I love the cars on the road so i have switched that back on. I now get 15fps (still a 5fps improvement). I dont see boats or other airlines but i consider that a small sacrifice for a 50% frame rate improvement. I see the smoother frame rate every second i fly. The boats and other airlines i dont see that often at those previous low settings so i am willing to sacrifice them.I use Seattle as a test bed as thats about the worst you will get. I just flew around Miami in the A321 and got close to 19fps flying low over the city so its all uphill from there :)Just thought i would share, give it a go and see if the sacrifice is worth it.

Your discription is rather vague on exactly what settings your using, more details please.

Sorry, my post was a little unclear. i was saying that most of the sliders dont affect frame rates while the autogen slider does affect frame rates. i DO have autogen switched on. Its currently set to 'normal' and scenery complexity is set to 'normal' as well.I have all my sliders around the half way mark. Screen resolution is 1280x1024 and anti-aliasing/anistropic filtering are both set to 4x.My point is, even if you have your AI traffic, road traffic and airport traffic set to very low numbers it can still make a pretty big impact on frame rates (for me 6fps). Some people are saying they have these settings at 30% etc. which might explain the very poor frame rates they are seeing around the cities.
