October 19, 200619 yr Hello everyone :DHave anyone really tried and tested this variables ?TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELLTERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELLBecause the first one that limits the trees is not working but the buildings limit do work.Have tried :TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=0TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=100TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=10000Tried everything even added the values at display.cfg and nothing, no errors, no crash, no more or less trees.TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL do work properly and you can lower the value to display less Generic AutoGen buildings and archive good frame rates, these buildings are not frame rate hungry.Seems that AutoGen scenery is divided in 2 different types :1.- Default ( Better looking customized buildings, factories..etc )2.- Generic ( Simple Buildings and small houses )So to improve frame rates i disabled default buildings ( default.xml hungry frame rate eater ) and left the generic running alone. Then maxed out AutoGen at game options and WOW! got amazing good frame rates over cities combined with Dense static scenery, not as populated as it can be but playing at 20-30fps is much better than 8-14fps that had before. The only problem now is the frame rate outside the cities where LOTS i mean TONS of trees are displayed because now autogen is totally maxed, it gives no problem at cities because it generates a small quantity of trees. So the solution seems easy, limit the number of trees displayed at once using "TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL" but its a shame that is not working or have no real effect :(Right now going at 15fps or better at most cities except Tokyo where I need to lower Static Scenery, everything else seems to run fine and AutoGen is always at MAX.My Comp :Windows XP SP2Athlon XP 2800 overclocked to 2.2GhzATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB at sock speed1GB PC3200 DDR dual channelMotherboard Gigabyte NForce2Sound card Audigy 2Please help, anyone had success limiting trees? they are basically eating my comp. Also noticed that the game menu when its shown it really eats 10% of your frame rate so disable the menu leaving ALT key pressed for a few seconds.
October 19, 200619 yr I can confirm that the max trees setting does indeed work. I've used it to tweak my own copy of FSX and have noticed definite differences between, say, 500 and 3000. I double-checked your entries for typos but couldn't find any either, so I'm stumped as to why you wouldn't notice a difference..The only advice I can give you is that it was suggested that you don't use anything less than 10 (apparently 0 caused crashes for some people) and the maximum FSX will recognize is 6000.Also, just in case you didn't know it, remember that this sets the maximum number (the rightmost position on the slider) of items. If you set max trees to 3000 and the slider at 50%, you'll get 1500.I know this probably doesn't help but thought I'd mention it :)
October 19, 200619 yr At config I have right now :[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000And still shows tons of trees, even my comp was about to crash.Going to add some screenshots so you can see the problem. The screens are from Mexico D.F. Area. ( Lic. Benito Juarez Airport )Good frames per second everywhere except when it goes crazy with the trees outside country, impossible to fly low because of them.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159067.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159068.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159069.jpgTweaks : -Renamed Default.xml-Reduced 50% textures for October 19, 200619 yr Here's a head to head comparison from FSX Demo 1. The results should be obvious. Autogen is set at normal, only difference config wise between the two images are the two mentioned autogen tweaks. One is with the default 4500/3000 value, and one with 100/300.Default:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159071.jpg100/300:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159072.jpgThe framerate is the same in both of the pics because I didn't change my framelock and because, for the default pic, I had just loaded FSX and that flight so I hadn't actually done anything. (Thus why the motor looks stopped.) After unpausing the framerate dropped down to around 25FPS, while my system with the 100/300 tweak could manage about 35FPS. No other tweaks were done. (Maybe one or more of those other autogen tweaks causes this one to not work?)And for reference, my system specs:Intel P4 550 3.4GhzIntel 915GEVL motherboard1GB DDR2-533 SDRAMGigabyte GeForce 256MB 7600 GT PCIe1024x768 resolutionEdit: Oh, and the devs have said not to use 0 because of a bug, it could crash FlightSim. A safe range is 0-6000. (Yes, in theory you can actually increase it.)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
October 19, 200619 yr Looking at those screenshots and considering your autogen slider is at "sparse" (autogen setting of 1) something is definitely wrong with your system / installation. 800 trees per cell at autogen 1 should not give you that thick of a forest (nowhere near it).The only "file tweak" I've done in FSX was to use Matt Fox's "reduced autogen tree variety" list (the newer version, with more variety). I'm not sure how much exactly it's helping the game's performance on my machine, but I know it hasn't messed up the "objects per cell" settings in fsx.cfg.Unfortunately I can't offer any insight into this problem, other than that it looks to me like a genuine problem as the "per cell" settings in fsx.cfg DO work (on my machine and others').
October 19, 200619 yr Seems that my CFG at my user profile is not being updated, so everytime i run the game got to load this cfg :[GRAPHICS]TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024NUM_LIGHTS=8AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1LANDING_LIGHTS=1AC_SELF_SHADOW=0EFFECTS_QUALITY=0GROUND_SHADOWS=0[sCENERY]LENSFLARE=1DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5[DISPLAY]BLOOM_EFFECTS=0SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=30UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30[PANELS]QUICKTIPS=1PANEL_OPACITY=100[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=43MESH_RESOLUTION=18TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=25AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5DETAIL_TEXTURE=1WATER_EFFECTS=3[WEATHER]CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=3DETAILED_CLOUDS=1CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=5THERMAL_VISUALS=0DownloadWindsAloft=0DisableTurbulence=0[TrafficManager]AirlineDensity=0GADensity=0FreewayDensity=0ShipsAndFerriesDensity=0LeisureBoatsDensity=0IFROnly=0AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=1If you say that the per cell setting works at your comp then maybe its the scenery area where i always fly, its Mexico so going to try some other forrest to do testing. Thanks for your comments
October 19, 200619 yr You are right! Tree Limiter does works at most places but in Mexico where i like to fly somehow the scenery always display the same ammount of trees. Then the only fix for Mexico scenery is to lower the AutoGen everytime i fly outside the cities.Thank you all for your comments :D
October 19, 200619 yr A thought occured to me:Are you by any chance editing the config file WHILE you have FSX running? If you do, you should know that FSX *only* reads the config file when you load it up. Also, when you exit FSX it overwrites the config file with whatever settings it read from it when it loaded plus whatever changes you made to your settings during the session (from within FSX).So the order in which to edit your config file is:1) Load up fsx.cfg in editor, make changes, save file, exit editor2) Load up FSX, test settings, quit FSX3) Load up fsx.cfg in editor, make changes.. rinse, repeat
