October 19, 200619 yr Below is a quick review of my first FSX session last night, apart from time spent at the AVSIM convention. My specs:Dell Dimension 8400 (about 2 years old)3.2GHZ P41 GB 533 MHz RAMnVidia 6800 w/256MB RAM19" flat panel x 1280x1024 No fixes installed. No driver updates. I wanted to see how it worked out of the box. FSX installed without issue and telephone activation worked well.First flight: the default Friday Harbor in the ultralight with default settings. Performance was good, about 18 FPS, but with some "micro" stuttering. I turned off autogen and performance improved substantially with no more stuttering.I tend to agree with "GEOFA's" opinion about autogen. Good to have at low altitudes, but not absolutely necessary as his many screenshots will attest. Second flight: KIAD, Cessna 172, with and without autogen. Performance was worse than at Friday Harbor with frames under 10 and stutters on takeoff roll with autogen on. Much more flyable with autogen off. I landed at DCA , one of the new detailed airports in FSX, without stutters.Last flight: SFO takeoff and landing, Baron, without autogen. Good results on takeoff and cruise, but stuttering on approach perhaps caused by road traffic and detail of SFO. Airport vehicles crossed runway on rollout, a bit annoying, but there is an easy fix for that.Things I like:1. road and boat traffic. It adds another level of realism.2. improved water effects, easily one of the best enhancements3. vastly improved road networkKeep in mind I flew for about one hour, barely scratching the surface. I'm sure to find more thing to like and some annoyances, too. To summarize, I got better much results than expected, but still need more fluid operations. Perhaps with fixes and other tweaks that will come. JF
