October 24, 200619 yr Changes to some config options results in FSX "Not Responding"Please note that the following is still occuring even after a reformat of the hard drive, reinstallation of Windows XP, and with only the nVidia drivers and sound card drivers and FSX on the machine.I am wondering if others are having my problem, which is that FSX locks up when trying to load it if in the previous session I changed a config option. Now I am talking about a permanent lockup here -- FSX simply won't start again (ever) after the error starts to show its face.Problem sequence described below. INSTINCT: It's how FSX is communicating to my graphics card upon loadup of program. But I need help.SEQUENCE: I happily enjoyed FSX for a full day. It worked great. I then decided to unselect "Show Startup Screen" and after that session, FSX refused to load (ever) again. Even after a reboot of machine. So ... I reformatted/reinstalled Windows XP and put on only drivers. Installed FSX and was glad the everything seemed fine. Played it for a day, then turned on the checkbox for "Light Bloom". Made a flight with that turned on ... and then the next session, same problem, FSX refuses to boot (ever) again.ERRATA:Now I have been around gaming long enough to be able to tell that this has to do with .ini file and with the graphics card. Unfortunately I did not make a backup copy of my initial .ini file but will do so tonight after reinstalling FSX again and running it for the first time. But the problem is that FSX shouldn't behave like this. Are config changes giving lockups to anyone? Thanks in advance.System: P4 3.0 630 --- 3.0 GB RAM --- XFX 7900 GT at stock --- 925X board --- 520W OCZ PowerStream
October 24, 200619 yr What .ini file? FSX contains no .ini files. Do you perhaps mean the FSX.cfg file? If so then there is no need to delete the whole file, just the lines under Display that relate to your card. The sim will reboot and recognise the `new` card, you reset yoru resolution, AA and Filtering preferences and you're back up and running.Sound more like a power supply issue - when you turned the bloom on you stressed the power supply as the graphic card tried t ramp-up its performance. This is cropping up quite frequently as FSX shows up ANY deficiency in the hardware. Also, what drivers are installed for the card? If not 91.47's, then go get them. and install them.BTW, this is a hardware problem and should be posted in the hardware forum. Allcott
