How I fixed the stutters in FS2020

Featured Replies

This may not work for anyone else, but I thought I would at least share my experiences regardless.

My specs:

i7 7700k @ 4.2ghz

GTX 1080 8gb

Strix Z270E gaming motherboard

G.Skill 16gb DDR4 ram

1080p

Sim installed on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD

CPU running at 100% load most of the time, GPU 30% at most.

Terrible FPS - barely 20, stutters constantly, no matter if the sim was set to low, high or ultra.

Turning off AI and/or live traffic had no effect on FPS whatsoever

Basically unplayable.

What I did:

* Enabled CPU hyperthreading in bios (no idea why it was turned off in the first place)

* Rolled back to previous NVIDIA drivers, 451.67

* In NVIDIA control panel, I halved my refresh rate (60hz monitor), then turned on vsync in sim, set frames to 60

* Purchased another 16gb of RAM, doubling up to 32gb

Result:

Stutters GONE. Sim smooth, running on ultra, with a few options changed back to high (I'm not at my sim PC at the moment so I don't know exactly what those changes are)

Turned off the FPS display, the sim is smooth, I don't care what the FPS is

CPU load has dropped significantly, GPU is currently at 100% load, and breathing a little heavily (which scares me a little, however temps are good).

I will continue to tinker, as I'm sure we all will. As I said, not sure if any of that will help anyone else, but that is what I did to get a smooth running experience.
