Autopilot: Is ALT only mode possible?

Hello everybody,
on all turboprop engines as soon as the ALT (or VSpeed) mode is activated, the autopilot no longer allows me to manually control the heading of the aircraft (even the aircraft joystick does not move to the right / left). HDG and NAV modes are disabled, and so is the wing leveler. Solutions?
