I'm sure this has been reported before, but I've heard ATC occasionally being emitted as bad static. By going to Options>Settings>Sound and then simply pressing OK solves the problem. Not ideal, but at least a fairly easy way around this problem.

Actually, a far quicker way to overcome this is to press Q, then Q again... cures it it on my system anyway.
