November 15, 200619 yr This may just affect the heavies (737/A321) but was curious if others noticed this odd effect.Okay, I set the autopilot to climb to an altitude, and it goes at the climb/descent rate I have set, all good so far. Now, ATC asks me to fly to a new altitude while I'm close to reaching the previously assigned one, so I dial in the new value, and my climb/descent rate setting is still the same - but the autopilot now only keeps the plane climbing/descending at about 1000 ft/min, until I change the value on the climb/descent rate knob - and then it magically jumps to the setting displayed.Anyone else noticed this? I never noticed this in FS9, so wondered if it was just a FSX quirk - or do these aircraft really react like this until you change the climb/descent rate, kind of as a way of getting a confirmation for how fast you want to reach the new altitude? Thanks!Andy.
November 16, 200619 yr Yes, I've noticed this too so you're not alone. I have the VS set at 1800 fpm but, when I increase or decrease the altitude, the VS indicator still indicates 1800 fpm but it is actually climbing or descending at approx 1000 fpm. I simply increase the VS to 1900 or higher and then immediately return it to 1800 and the VSI shows the actual value I set it (1800). I could understand this happening with a properly programmed flight management computer but the default aircraft do not simulate the FMC. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone....Best regards,Jim
November 16, 200619 yr Thanks for the response - certainly glad I'm not alone with this issue. I do the same thing, just click it off one notch and then back to the setting I want! Bit annoying - but it works!!!!
