November 20, 200619 yr Hi guys, I really love to fly float planes, but airport on lakes are very difficult to locate. I personally know a couple around here, but they are not in FSX.Anyway ... In free flight, is there any way to start with a float plane on a lake of my choice (that doesn't really have an airport)? I tried to play around with the flight planner ...without success.
November 20, 200619 yr Start a free flight at an airport. When loaded go to map view. Move the aircraft to the nearest lake and start.
November 20, 200619 yr There are several options available to you:1) As the previous posters says, start a free flight at a close airport then use the map to move your aircraft to the lake/point you want to start from. Once there go to the external overhead view, enter slew mode, move the aircraft to where you always want to start from, change view mode to whatever you wish to start your flight in, then save out the flight using a descriptive name (i.e. Smith Lake). Whenever you want to fly from that location just use your saved file.2) The second option (which I am doing) is to use AFCAD to create a water runway that you can access like any airport. AFCAD doesn't work directly with FSX but: a. Obtain the coordinates (long/late) of your lake. b. Create a new airport (water runway) in AFCAD; leave AFCAD running. c. Start FSX (you must have the freeware version of FSUIPC installed) and using slew mode move your aircraft to the start end of your water runway; switch to AFCAD and mark the location (your aircraft position will be shown as a red cross hair). d. Back in FSX, slew your aircraft to the end of your water runway. Go back into AFCAD and again mark the location of your aircraft. Close out FSX. e. In AFCAD, create your water runway and adjust it to cover the start and end marks you've made. Give your new airport a designation and name. Save the AFCAD file out to your desktop. Manually copy the AFCAD file into your Addon Scenery/Scenery folder. When you restart FSX your new water runway can be accessed from the standard airport directory. You can use this same technique to make adjustments to regular airports. For instance, I've used it to add parking and AI to the Area 51 base.
November 20, 200619 yr Simplest way I know of is to just start a flight at an airport close to the water you want to land on, and take-off in a plane with wheels. Somewhere during the flight, switch to a plane with floats and do the landing on the water.Save the flight once you're on the water, and you'll always be able to do the water thing again without the kluge.
