Weird recurring error

Featured Replies

Hi everyoneI'm brand new to FSX, in fact brand new to flight simulations. I've had FSX about a week and I really like it, but I have a problem which I can't find mention of in these forums. It's happened three times now and always when I'm over the ocean and when no land is visible. I don't know if that is pertinent but that's when it's happened each time. The screen goes black and an error message is displayed saying "AI_PLAYER.DLL error. Overload casued by 'traffic_aircraft.bgl'. Click OK to continue" (screen grab attached showing the message). The problem is that when I click OK the message pops up again and the only way out is to quit FSX and reload it.Does anyone know what is causing this? I have reinstalled the program as I figured that it might have corrupted but I'm still getting the same error.

Need your system specs but it looks like a memory/pagefile problem. Nothing wrong with the files (ai_player or traffic_aircraft) or everyone would be posting about this error. Make sure your pagefile is "System Managed" vs making your own system allocation. I think this is especially important if you have 1 gig or less of RAM.Do you have your AI slider at 100%, 1%, or what? You might want to reduce the number of AI aircraft or keep it at the default setting as your system may not be capable of handling all the flight plans and aircraft at higher settings. If it is already set at the default, try lowering the setting or turn it off and see if that fixes the problem.Defrag your system. I found that after installing FSX, the program scatters the files all over the hard drive. You can see this too when you defrag as it is showing ONLY FSX files being moved. I was shocked as I regularly defrag but never saw anything scattered like this. After the defrag, the FSX was noticably smoother and I definitely gained FPS.Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

Jim, thanks for the reply. My system is:AMD Athlon

Sorry you're still having the problem. No more suggestions to resolve your problem. Those two files you reference as part of the error msg are connected to AI traffic so it's weird you are still getting a CTD with settings set to 0 AI. Maybe someone else can figure it out.Best regards,Jim
