December 28, 20205 yr Got the 530W/430W combination working in the default C172. It is really great! Most noticable differences with the Xplane version of the 530/430: All menu screens are there. In turns the CDI guides you through the turn as well as expected and it should. That in contrary to the XPlane 530/CDI which flips the needle instead. (see also https://pplir.org/pbn_manual/ page 8 of version 3 rev 11) OBS fully works with the CDI1 and CDI2 (OBS course set by VOR1 and VOR2 indicator dial when in GPS mode) Small footnote: It is a bit of hassle to get it working in the default C172: Do not change the name of the directory from where you install it (standard C:|RealityXP), otherwise licences will not be installed correctly Get the setup for the default 172 as GNS 530 1 Master Device Connect GPS to Autopilot NOT Connect GPS to HSI Connect to VOR1/OBS (course in) Connect GPS to VOR1 indicator Connect CDI Mode to NAV/GPS Switch Sync mode: Select both directions Use Simulator GPS Commands GNS 430 2 NOT Master Device NOT Connect GPS to Autopilot NOT Connect GPS to HSI Connect to VOR2/OBS (course in) Connect GPS to VOR2 indicator NOT Connect CDI Mode to NAV/GPS Switch Use Simulator GPS Commands Follow the last two pages of the manual, then make sure not to use "Paint 3D", but "Paint" When you have a paid nav subsibscription available for a real device, update the database of the Garmin GPS simulator.
December 29, 20205 yr Author Additioanlly for the default 172 set the Power Source for GNS 530 1: Avionics Bus GNS 420 2: Auto (Bus #2) Then you can use the two avionics switches to switch on/off each of them individually. A remark about my satisfaction: I can only be that satisfed because I have access to monthly updates of the database for a real device. Otherwise the standard provided database would have been far too much out of date (2010) as in recent years in the areas I fly the number of RNAV / RNP / GPS procedures/approaches increased a lot and NDBs and even VORs are taken out of service. If you like to fly based on real or Navigraph charts you will need a fairly recent database for the 530/430. For those wondering why I am that enthousiastic about having full OBS capabilities based on the VOR1 and VOR2 indicator dials: It is a great tool for: IFR circling procedures (if OBS available, mandatory to use by my instructor/examinor) IFR Holdings VFR runway and airport reference as backup for bad weather conditions, and/or difficult to find airports visually
