Strange texture problem

Featured Replies

Hello flightsim community,I've got a strange texture problem in FSX which makes the sim unflyable for me. When I start the sim, the textures in the aircraft selection window blur already. After loading, everything seems to be normal first on the outside, but the interior and exterior aircarft textures don't load correctly and blur completely. The terrain texures appear normal first, and in areas without too much different autogen types I get more than 20fps.But shortly after take-off, first problems appear. In the first demo there were strange rectangles in the water and checkered autogen textures as well as a complete texture mess on bigger textured things like ocean liners - see pic below, it looks like a shipwreck. In the FSX retail version, after switching views, underground texures get "smeared" behind autogen and appear light blue, as if autogen erased everything but the sky textures. After a while, the ground textures "rip off" and disappear. My system: AMD64 3000+, ATI radeon 9800 pro, drivers v8.291.0.0, catalyst 06.9, 2*512mb RAM.(I read in several posts in this forum that you can get a decent FSX experience with similar systems if you don't expect too much, so it is not a "wrong hardware" problem.)Please note also, that I did not get similar problems with FS9.Please have a look at my screenshots, maybe someone can recognise the problem here and help me out. Thanks for your help in advance, it's very much appreciated! :)Greetings from GermanyAlexhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162531.jpgDemo1, rectangles in the water and on the houseshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162532.jpgDemo1, "shipwreck textures"http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162533.jpgFSX pro retail version "autogen smearing"http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162534.jpgFSX "texture rip off"http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162535.jpg

YOu don't say whether the Mobo is AGP or PCI-Express?I BET its AGP, and you have the AGP Aperture setting in the BIOS to 32 or 64 meg?Am I right? If so, then just search on AGP APERTURE as a search term. Clearly there is some kind of bottleneck in texture transfer - as witnessed by the blurred grond textures, which shows that FSX is struggling to keep up with the texture load. It's either the AGP, the card having a problem, or the system RAM going wrong.Systematic troubleshoot:1: Adjust AGP Aperture2: Reinstall motherboard drivers, graphic card drivers and DX9.03: Run memtest or some other RAM testing utility to check a RAM stick hasn't gone faulty.Allcott

Thanks very much for your help allcot. :)I removed the old drivers, cleaned the registry, installed the 6.11 drivers so far. I'm still checking the results. BTW, my system says ATI 9800 pro, PCI bus 1, pciven_1002&dev_4e48. So it's not AGP, isn't it?Alex

After troubleshooting I am back...Thanks to the good observations and assumptions by allcot I checked my system (I never was too much into those, so I had to go and find out).Motherboard: VIA VT8237 Radeon 9800Pro 128mb *AGP* (indeed, even though it says PCI somewhere).I updated my catalyst drivers to v6.11 (I did the previous update after installing fsx, but it wasn't good enough, obviously). Now my FSX runs at least without those blue tearing textures, a great progress - I am finally able to at least see some of FSX's beauty. Textures tend to blur quickly, but tweaking should help (and accepting that the 9800pro is not too much up-to-date).*But* still there are some strange problems:The aircraft textures still are completely blurred in the aircraft selection window as well as in the gam, whil the ground textures load properly as long as I don't fly too fast.Could it be a shader problem? In addition, FSX crashes sometimes without notice and nothing but a complete reboot can help.Any thoughts? :)Thanks again,Alexhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162723.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162724.jpg
