December 7, 200619 yr Remember in the movie Apollo 13 where the guy let behind had to create a start up sequence that did not exceed so many amps for the guys returning to earth?!Well I decided to do that with sliders in FSX and my amps were FPS.My approach was with the goal that I wanted to enjoy FSX with the understanding that I use FS9 as my main flight sim.One great feature of FSX that I do like is the better VC so I decided that I wanted to enjoy the new planes and VC's of FSX the most. All the other features come at a price but was surprised to find I could get a great flight without compromising losing weather and ground textures. What I ended up with is having all sliders to the right (and Frame rates when at the lows in the upper teens) with the exception of Auto-gen, AI traffic, water effects, and the animated ground traffic (airport support vechicles, boats, cars etc)In FS9 I have UTerrain and UTraffic and great addons so The features I dont have in FSX enabled I see in FS9. However, what I did end up with in FSX is a enjoyable flight experience.I did have to make one more sacrifice which is location of flights. I've read many post stating they get good frames until over cities so I decided to compliment my auto-genless world by using the terrain as my auto-gen and fly all my flights in and near Anchorage, AK.Since the area is mostly snow cover mountains I dont miss the auto gen that much (the mountain ridges look very nice)and since I enjoy flying the glider, trike, beaver, maule, crj, lear and 737 I have a field for each of those planes in the surrounding area.To sum it up, I'm using FSX OOB solely as a flight simulator and leaving all the eye candy and real world feel in FS9. In doing so I am really enjoying it when I use FSX. The great ground textures, the 3d clouds (all sliders right for both textures and wx) and the new a/c all combine to having a great flight in the air. Since I have no AI, I dont use the radio and spend very little time on the ground. For now this allows me to enjoy FSX and having FS9 as my main sim I am o.k. with that even if I am limited to a very small part of the world for flying in.
