February 18, 20215 yr Hello! Why are 2 different magnetic numbers (280M 281M) (see Pic.: https://drive.google.com/file/d/123QcYcP1LPpVFu4_grgEhIlI69Q28Uik/view?usp=sharing) (284T is magnetic deviation, right?) Regards Wolfgang
February 18, 20215 yr A magnetic heading is changing because the shortest path between 2 points is an orthodrome. For shortest distance it will not change. If you fly exactly in one heading - it's called loxodrome, but it's not shortest line, it's a spiral that goes around sphere (Earth) into the one of polars (depend on heading).284T is not magnetic deviation but true heading. BTW you think about magnetic variation (~3deg East in this case). Magnetic deviation is an compass error because of local magnetic field (for example iron's ship side). February 19, 20215 yr Author Aha 😉! Thank you!For this Example, at the VOR it starts with 280M and after 12,7nm the value is 281M, right? In the 2nd part: You are right, I meant magnetic variation, not deviation 🙃….. Regards Wolfgang
