Whats the difference between old VFR Scenery and new VFR Real Scenery

Featured Replies

Hi,Does anyone know what the difference is between the old JustFlight VFR Scenery and the new JustFlight VFR Real Scenery for FSX that is due out in January? I have the old one and am wondering if that will still work in FSX? or do I need to upgrade to the VFR Real Scenery?Regards,Dave

New one, 1 metre resolution. Old one, 5. New one, NOT the same developer as the old. The same developer of the old has produced a rival product: Generation-Xhttp://www.horizonsimulation.com/shopuk/http://www.justflight.com/vfr-info.aspNo idea whether the old will work in the new sim, but I wouldn't try it unless you like reinstalling! Having said that you ought to be able to try it without risk by simply adding the VFR folders from the FS9 installation to the scenery menu in FSX. There's no need to install it a second time.I've already done this a few times to test for possible compatibility with stuff that I bought for FS9. Most scenery doesn't work unless its patched or modified.Allcott

>I have the old one and am>wondering if that will still work in FSX? I briefly used the original VFR England & Wales in FSX using the method that Allcott suggests i.e. leaving the FS9 installation intact, and just pointing the FSX scenery library at the FS9/VFR folders. The scenery works in FSX with a couple of (what I consider) minor issues. Some of the terrain isn't matched very well with the textures leading to some strange effects in hilly regions like lakes drooping over cliffs and vertical roads. I'm told that a change in the way that FSX models the globe (curved surface vs flat surface)leads to some tile edges not matching up, however I didn't notice that myself. If you've still got FS9 and VFR installed give it a try.David

I have the 'old' VFR scenery installed (onto a seperate drive as I found that it is loaded much more smoothly than from the same drive with FSX) and point FSX to it from the scenery library. So far, I haven't found any problems though I'm sure that David is correct. i prefer the look of even the lower resolution scenery as it accurately reflects the UK; the default is far too generic and omits many towns and villages completely in my part the country (East Anglia) so I'd hate to think how much is missing from the whole UK...!!! Plus, i very much dislike the autumnal desert that the default creates, and the awful airport background textures are so flat, plain and ill-matched. The VFR covers all these errors very nicely. You still get some of the 'special' custom autogen objects (London landmarks, bridges, etc.), and the AI cars and trucks are still present:)
