RFP - POSKY 747-200 Merge

Featured Replies

Well after about a 15 year hiatus from "public" life in the FS world, I am back. I've tooled around, a lot, with the RFP 747 to try and get it to merge properly with the POSKY 747-200, and here is the result. Id like to thank this thread for helping me with the lights.

First, the .air .mdl and .cfg file all work in harmony to allow the aircraft to work. I'm in the process of scanning the .cfg file to see whats in it that tips off the anti-merge code to shut down the engines when you load the aircraft in the sim. If you don't have all three files in their proper locations, the engines will shut down and fail to start, including using CTRL+E or an inflight start. Another thing to keep in mind, and I am not sure if this is a problem with my sim alone, as in its bloated, but on occasion I have experienced the engine shut down problem on loading the aircraft, a restart of FS9 seems to make this problem go away, seems to happen 10% of the time. I have also not experienced a shut down in flight either.

I have changed the weights, fuel capacities, thrust ratings, and cargo capacities to be based off of the 833K MTOW 747-200B with JT9D-7R4G2 engines. This will allow you to fly the 747-200 to the maximum of its capabilities. I removed the high number of station loads on the RFP 747 down to 6, with a weight of 80,360bs for pax areas at 392 seats, giving an average pax weight of 203lbs (Airbus, Boeing, and McDD seem to use 200-205lbs average pax weight).

The fuel capacities have been changed to reflect that of the real aircraft for this MTOW. I know it shows the right/left aux as having a magnitude or more of fuel than the right/left main, however, when playing with these locations, right/left aux is actually the location of the right/left main on the RFP 747 and changing these around for semantics changes the aircrafts COG. So, just leave the titles be.

The contact points of the RFP vs POSKY is where the biggest noticeable issue is. Unless you change these, the aircraft will float. I had to find the best height for these piece by piece.

The engines thrust was upped to that of the -7R4G2.

The lights, which I poached from the aforementioned thread here some 14 years ago, has been copied over successfully. The issue if you don't change these over is, well, the lighting will make the plane look like a kaleidoscope.

I do have one issue with it right now, yaw motions seem to be extreme on the ground. Its as if I am drifting the aircraft around corners or during landing. More investigation continues. But at this point, it may be a me issue and not an overall issue with the RFP-POSKY merge. Enjoy! Let me know if this is successful for you, or if you have issues.
