Autopilot will not track GPS path in “gps steering" mode

Featured Replies

The following happens when I try to use GPS Steering mode with a Laminar Cessna 172 and an S-TEC 55 autopilot:

•    Use GNS 530 to created flight plan in GNS 530:  for example: KBOS->KPVD
•    DTRK=221
•    Set heading bug to 220
•    Set CDI to GPS
•    Set nav/gps toggle on instrument panel to GPS
•    Take off
•    GNS 530 nav display show KPVD as GPS destination
•    Set auto pilot to maintain heading=220 / altitude=4500
•    Press NAV twice:  AP indicates “GPSS”
•    DTK=221 / TRK=231
•    The 231 heading intersected the GPS track, but, after intersecting GPS line, it held the 231 TRK as plane went further and further off course

I wonder whether that this may have something to do with the Gauge Options and/or the Settings Panel – my current settings are below.

Gauge Options GPS Source option

•    currently set et on “Auto”

Settings panel

•    Connect gps to autopilot
•    Connect gps to HSI
•    Connect CDI mode to nav/gps switch (sync=gps->sim)
•    Note:  switch does nothing when I press CDI button on 530
•    “Use Simulator GPS Commands” NOT CHECKED

•    RXP VERSION:    2.4.21.3 / “UP TO DATE”

•    X-PLANE VERSION:   11.55

•    WINDOWS VERSION
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎2021-‎04-‎22
OS build 19042.1110
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

Many thanks.
