Don't upgrade your monitor if you haven't tried VR

Featured Replies

The Oculus Quest 2 is essentially a 38" 3440x1440 120hz IPS monitor - but one that is strapped to your face and provides the illusion of depth and a 360 degree field of view.

And it costs $299.

If you've got some spare $$$ and you haven't tried VR - I'd highly recommend giving the Oculus 2 a whirl before upgrading your monitor, especially if Flight Sims are your primary activity. I find I spend more time in VR than using my 34" 21:9 monitor with MSFS (though not 100% of the time - it's hard to drink coffee with the headset on) - and the experience of depth and head tracking adds a level of immersion that you just have to see for yourself.

A good quality monitor is still a sound investment - it will probably outlast every other component of your rig - but $299 for a high quality VR setup is a crazy value.
