SP1 and addons

Featured Replies

HiJust so Im absolutely clearI have UTraffic and Horizon VFR installed in FSX, ALSO fSInnSurely I dont have to uninstall FSX for SP1 because of this do I?Isnt it worth the risk of attempting to run SP1 over my current set upand what do internet users of FSInn supposed to do??Rich

Here's a suggestion that I posted in response to another fellow with a similar problem. I hope that I'm not violating the posting rules by duplicating it here.If you use the manual loading option that I mention below, you can easily launch FSX after installing SP1, and select which addons to permit loading. That should make it easy to figure out which addons will work with SP1, and which may need an update to allow them to work properly.------Here's a way to disable addons that doesn't require editing any FSX files.I assume that you launch FSX by using a shortcut to FSX.1. Make a copy of the shortcut file that you use to launch FSX, and place this copy of the shortcut onto your desktop.2. Right-click on this shortcut copy, and choose "Properties" from the context menu that is shown.3. Click on the Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog that is shown.4. In the Target: edit box, you'll see the file path for the FSX program (it ends with fsx.exe). Edit that string, adding to the end of it the characters " /SafeMode" (don't include the quote marks and note the leading space).5. Click the OK button on that dialog to close it.6. Double-click on that shortcut copy that you've just edited. This will launch FSX, but will disable the loading of any Addon DLLs or EXEs.Once you're done with the shortcut copy file, you can simply delete it.In step 4, you can use the string " /ManualLoad" instead. This will prompt you with a dialog for every enabled addon, allowing you to choose whether or not to load it.Hope this helps.-Dave

Davethx for thathowever I am unable to add the command to the target line on pressing OK is says the string is invalid?Rich

Make sure that the " /ManualLoad" string that you append to the existing string is appended _after_ all characters that were already present in the Target: string. Specifically, the existing Target: string is likely to end with a double-quote character ("). Place the " /ManualLoad" string (again, without the quote chars) _after_ that ending quote char. If you place the appending string within the existing quote char, you'll get an error message like what you describe.Hope this helps.-Dave

DaveMany thx that worksparticularly relevant as SP1 installed sucessfully but FSX would not run - looks like the culprit was FSInn(copil0t)this really is a significant post and has enabled me to upgrade without reinstalling, thx m8!Rich

RichYou're welcome. I'm glad it helped you sort things out.As for it being a significant post, I'll leave it to the community to decide its value. I suppose it could prove useful to others, but I'm not sure how best to give it higher visibility on AvSim; I don't want to make a pest of myself by re-posting this all over.-Dave
