May 19, 200719 yr I am not a computer expert, but more of a hobbyist. I built costume PCs for a living not to long ago and can say that although computer processing and memory has leaped forward at an alarming rate, just as a high percentage of the gray matter that makes up our brains; visual rendering takes up a lot more memory and processing power than most of us think.Yes, our computers have more raw processing power and memory than possibly all the computers combined to land the first man on the moon and more than most even recent robotic missions to mars, but the big difference is that they use their processing and memory to crunching numbers specifically for that particular space mission. With that said, I believe if our computer hardware where solely designed to run FSX we would not have the problems we have now.I do a lot of CGI for my company and with all the powerful computers at my disposal, I still have to put two or three computers to work on rendering a single scene that takes hours if not days to render a 5 minute live action scene!I too have been playing flight simulator since the Commodore 64 version, and if you would go back to those versions, including the version for the 386, 486 PCs of the time, you cannot compare the stunning graphics and all around performance of FSX to even FS9. It took three computer upgrades, over a three-year period to get my copy of FS9 running at a steady 30 or 40 FPS with all sliders maxed out!I think our expectations for computer rich animations and graphics are out growing current computer capabilities. If you look at all the gaming message boards, look at how kids complain about game graphics on the 360 compared to the PS3 and so on. Well if people think we are behind in computer graphics than just take a quick turn back to Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Pole Position, and Consoles like ColecoVision, Commodore 64, Duke Nukem graphics! I honestly think we are expecting excessively from a $65 piece of game/hobby software. If we want that much more from a flight simulator game, maybe we should raise a couple Millions $ and hire a software engineer and another couple of Millions in hardware to have the flight simulator of our dreams :) Why wonder the competitors of flight simulator software went out of business a few years ago, with costumers like us, good lord, who wouldn
