When I open FSX through the fsx.exe the sim loads strait to the default flight. I have even changed the default flight and it still loads to the handglider at Friday Harbour. Any ideas what is causing this?

There is an option on the General options tab (on the top left) to load the interface or not (or something similar: I'm not behind my FSX computer right now)). You probably ticked that off.
