Although I am quite happy with the way FSX is currently running I want to see the effect of installing the latest direct x runtime. So I downloaded the program from the microsoft download centre, transferred it to my gaming pc but when I tried installing it I got a message saying 'installation failed please try again later or check your network connection'. Is this because I have no interet connection? Is there a solution? Thanks.

You probably downloaded the webinstaller: that's just a little exe that will download the REAL stuff from the internet!
