[Aug 26] Canadian Xpress August 2023 Monthly Fly-In

Phoenix is Arizona's state capital and the most populous city in that state with 1,608,139 residents as of 2020. It is the fifth-most populous city in the United States and the most populous state capital in the country. The Phoenix metropolitan area is known as the Valley of the Sun, which in turn is part of the Salt River Valley. Summertime sees temperatures in Phoenix rise so high, some aircraft types are unable to takeoff as the outside air temperature requires an engine performance derating larger than the aircraft capabilities.

Telluride is a town the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado. The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. Telluride sits in a box canyon. Steep forested mountains and cliffs surround it. Telluride Airport is the highest commercial airport in the US at an elevation of 9,078 feet above sea level. Like Phoenix with its aircraft effecting weather. Summertime flying at Telluride is a challenge as well. With daytime temperatures that can reach nearly 30 degrees Celsius, operating in the thin air at high elevations can wreak havoc on aircraft performance.
