XP vs Vista using SP2/Acceleration?

Recommended Posts

Guest ravisurdhar

So I'm still using XP on my DX10 capable machine (Apple MacBook Pro, which has an 8600GT). I need to reformat my Windows partition so I can fit Acceleration onto it, and I'm wondering if I should go straight to Vista. Do you see a significant difference (ie, drop) in fps going from XP to Vista? Is DX10 worth it?Has anyone tried FSX with Vista SP1 beta? Any improvements there?

Im using vista 64, if you do go with vista get the 64 bit version so you cna eliminate oom issues, I dont have sp2 set up with xp so I cant compare performance, but using sp2 with vista 64 i cant really complain, the fps are better than they were pre sp2. DX10 is nice to have becuase as time goes on it will be more and more usable once compatiblity issues are fixed and we have some better drivers. So in general im happy with vista and sp2, so if you have a capable cpu it might not be a bad idea to use vista. Also be aware that you can expect to loose a few fps moving to vista, and as dx10 is pretty buggy right now you could always keep xp and move to vista later when things get ironed out.
