June 1, 200224 yr Been Modeling stuff for trainz recently..and I just gotinto trying my hand at fs2002 plane modeling....Was wondering what is the range for acceptable poly counts for an aircraft model...If someone could give me high and low figures then also the average poly count for the stock fs2002 pro aircraft....Thanks...
June 1, 200224 yr >i believe the limit is about 64,000 Ok...but I was lookin for more of an example....For instance I would like to know what the stock msfs2002 aircraft are averaging. And what some of the 3rd party developers have pushed to with acceptable frame rates....But thanks for the reply
June 1, 200224 yr No idea about default aircraft, i guess pretty low poly, at least the AI Traffic ones, around 1000-2000.My favorite freeware aircraft (falcon 50) has 13,000 polies and so does my own model i'm working on.I think the average of the new aircraft created with gmax is something between 10,000 and 15,000 if they include virtual cockpit and all animated parts.Best RegardsDoc
June 3, 200224 yr I'm currently working to a limit of 15,000 polys. Mind you there is apparently a limit of 1Mb filesize for .mdl files, and in my experience this would equate to around 30-40 thousand polys overall (including VC and LOD models).Sean MoloneyRealAir Simulations,http://www.realairsimulations.com
June 3, 200224 yr I'm designing a concorde with fully modelled 3d virtual cockpit and virtual cabin, and at this time my mdl file size exeed 4.5Mb without problem...Hope it helps
June 3, 200224 yr 4.5Mb eh.... that's nice to know. Opens up a few extra possibilities...Sean MoloneyRealAir Simulations,http://www.realairsimulations.com
June 3, 200224 yr 4.5 MB ! Good grief. Do you have a pentium VII 8 GHz with a GeForce 8 ?Guess i'm going to put some Lara Crofts all over my passenger cabin, in the lavatory and the microwave, perhaps one more in the fridge.Best RegardsDoc
