Repainting GMAX aircraft

Featured Replies

To All,I have been repainting FS2000 aircraft for about two years now using Paint Shop Pro 7.0 I am now looking to try a repaint on a GMAX aircraft for FS2002. I noticed that when I opened the .BMP files that they are just a jumble of colors. What is needed to do repaints of GMAX aircraft? Please let me know.Thanks!!!FredCAT_II 2

Fred,You need a couple of things. Imagetool, which comes with FS2002 Pro or Martin Wrights DXTbmp http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm. These two tools allow for the conversion of DXT1 and DXT3 formatted bmps. These bmps have masks within them that allow for reflections you see on newer gmax aircraft, and also aircraft created with FSDS V2.The masks used provide different levels of reflecive qualities. The darker the shade of gray used in the mask will produce a chrome effect, the lighter the shade the more of a glossy paint look. Visit this site, there is a decent tutorial about reflective painting. http://www.oregon-coast.net/FS2002/simple.htmAlso check out Garry Smiths excellent FS2002 repaint tutorial at www.gjsmith.com, and also visit www.freeflightdesign.com and the tutorials sections.Good luck.Dave

Dave,Thanks for the info on the GMAX repaints. Haven't tried it out yet but should help a lot. Thanks again.Fred
