Want to do some painting

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,I did my first try at painting, it's not that bad if you have a paint kit, but the problem I'm having is that I can't get my computer to let me access the bmps for the default planes. If anyone has a paint kit that they've done for the C172, please let me know. One quick question, would you guys download this plane? I repainted that new Emb 170 to do a facke livery for my University.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/39049.jpgThanks,Allen

Hey Allen,Nice looking paint job. I can't tell from this far, but did you leave the panel lines in? Not even sure if the 170 has a paint kit available (that would have the panel lines as a separate layer).I personally like the colors and the resolution of the logo on the tail, well done! But I'd probably do something about the engines, not leave them pure white. Just personal taste.

Yeah the 170 has a paint kit. All of the parts have layers except for the engine part. So I'll have to trace over the engines to make the lines so I can paint the engines. It's easy when you have a paint kit.Anyone ever have problems trying to open some of the texture bmps to edit? I can never get them to open.Allen

Hey Allen,Some of the bitmaps have a different compression algorithm, called DXT1, 2 or 3. Windows does not recognize them natively, so you will need a program such as ImageTool. It came with the FS2002 install (just like gmax did also), not sure about FS9.

Ok, here's where I'm at now. After looking around for quite a while, I finally got to where I can edit the texture and get it to show up on the plane. But now I have another problem.I'm going to put text on the plane. However, the textures show up as mirror images. So Text is correct on one side, but on the other it's mirrored. Little problem. Any clues on how to solve this? The following is so that you can see what I"m talking about.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/39253.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/39254.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/39255.jpgAllen

Any clues on how>to solve this?Since there's only one texture mapping that is applied to both sides of the a/c, you cannot put lettering on without encountering this problem. The modeler could have avoided this problem by simply putting a tick mark in the box that reverses the UVW mapping when building the model, but for some reason the MSFS modelers didn't take the time to make one more mouse click to do so, the lazy bums! :(BillAVSIM OmbudsmanFounder and Director,Creative Recycling of Aircraft Partshttp://catholic-hymns.com/frbill/FS2002/images/fartslogo.jpg

Ok, then let me ask you this. Does anyone know if there is a way that I can add another texture that could sit on top of the main textures so that I can add a logo? I already have the plane completely white now, and I'm getting ready to add the stripes and all that, but I want to put my school's logo on the tail so it will look like the planes that we use for flight training here at our school.Allen
