September 26, 200322 yr An ethics question:I've created a landing panel for Dreamfleet's C152. In the spirit of giving back for all the things I've taken, I'm thinking I should upload it to share.I have seen the irate reactions and feuds generated over using other people's work and have no desire to step on any toes.If I modified a Dreamfleet panel bitmap but did not modify any gauges, can I upload this with out permission? Is this any different than someone uploading a repaint?Norm
September 26, 200322 yr I'd ask Dreamfleet for their permission in their forums at flightsim.com.... They encourage repaints and permission seems to be implied through the repaint kits, but the panel is copyrighted so it's safer (and polite) to seek permission where there is doubt.....I recently had someone do something similar to one of my freeware releases, and I wasn't asked permission, so I had the file pulled. Had I been asked, I would have given permission with no problem....-John
September 29, 200322 yr Thanks John,Yeah, after I thought about it for a weekend I realized I would be putting Dreamfleet's panel bitmap (without gauges) out there for anyone to use, it wouldn't take much to fill in the missing guages. But, no harm in asking I guess.Norm
September 29, 200322 yr Author However, if you are designing the panel for Dreamfleet users, then they already have the bitmap. All you have to do is upload the panel.cfg file. If you are simply modifying their panel.cfg, then you still need their permission, but they might be more open to that.- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
