Alpha for XML gauge BMPs

Recommended Posts

Guest Daviator

I searched this forum for help with Alpha=Yes for XML gauges and found some discussions but no solutions on creating images that use alpha like the reflection on the turn bank coordinator on the FS2004 DC3 and the reflection on the Vega compass. If you watch the ball in the turn coordinator you can see it though the glass reflection. http://www.daviator.com/alpha.jpgOne user had an image posted but the link was broken. He also mentioned a tutorial but I could not find one.I also read that this is a standard 8-bit image but then why would MS have Alpha=Yes when UseTransparency=Yes would do? Besides when I try to us an 8-bit image I get the same (ugly black border) effect and UseTransparency. Also, no clear method to create the usable alpha images was presented. (DXTBMP and Image tool extended images do not work). Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, DaveIt's simple task to make things complex and a complex task to make things simple.

Some time ago I said that XML Alpha bitmaps are smple greyscale bitmaps, that's NOT true. They have an alpha channel and have to be edited with an approbriate editor. Don't know which one though.Arne Bartels
